Marvin: My Favorite Martian Bloghop

(This is being released a couple days early because I have a guest appearing on the 21st, which is when everyone else will be posting about their favorite Martian.)

Without a doubt, Marvin is my favorite Martian.

Marvin has this preoccupation with the people (insects) of the tiny blue planet known as Earth. This preoccupation has led to a number of altercations with the tiny blue planet's inhabitants, including our beloved Bugs Bunny and, of course, Duck Dodgers of the 3rd Dimension.

He's hip on newfangled technology and an ardent supporter of the right to bear arms, possessing his own Acme Disintegrating Ray Pistol and being quite adept with a PU-36 Space Modulator. Without hesitation, he'll use both to defend the red planet known as Mars.

Yet his existence can be rather lonely.  I've never seen a Mildred, Martha or Mary Ann the Martian. He did, however, have K-9, his trusty four-legged companion.  And we do love those who have trusty, four-legged companions whether they be flesh and bone or not.

And I am convinced that we have Marvin to thank for the huge success of NASA's Spirit and Opportunity rovers. I fully expect we'll find a little Marvin DNA under one of those red rocks someday, possibly around the icy polar regions frozen alongside a biggie-sized telescope or an atomizer.

Marvin is definitely my favorite Martian--until you've made him very angry.

    1. I heard accusations that he'd conspired with the Mayans, but still, no kaboom. ;-)

  2. I'd forgotten all about this little guy. Now I'm going to be doing voice imitations of him all day. This was a fun stroll down cartoon memory lane. Back in my day....

    1. Definitely one of the most fun to imitate! (Right behind Foghorn Leghorn.)

  3. He made me laugh, A LOT. In regard of aliens Mork, from planet Ork also made me laugh. And in the war between Alien and Predator I always supported Predators. Sadly, Aliens seem to reproduce as often as they poop (or more often) making them the last warrior standing like, all the time.

    1. The Predators needed that PU-36 Space Modulator, then they could have shown the Aliens who was boss. ;-)

  4. Aw, Marvin the Martian! I remember watching cartoons of him back when I was a kid. So fun!

As for my favorite martian, I've always had a soft spot for those goofball aliens from 3rd Rock from the Sun. :)

    1. There you go making me look things up on my day off work. For shame, for shame. :)

According to Wikipedia: In his first appearance, he was voiced by Mel Blanc who gave him a nasal-like voice, but later, Mel adopted an accent resembling Received Pronunciation for the character. Marvin was voiced in recent years by Joe Alaskey, Bob Bergen, Eric Goldberg, and Eric Bauza. However, Sterling Holloway was suggested for Marvin's voice.

  13. Marvin - wonderful choice! A very nicely written piece that took me right to Marvin's Mars. Didn't he usually come out worse for wear, though? Or am I mis-remembering that?

  20. Hey, I thought I already commented, but maybe I forgot. Thank you very much for letting me know about this blog hop, and for sharing what you love about Marvin! Not many people actually picked a Martian, but he's definitely a good one. (Not as pretty as Dejah Thoris perhaps, but you can't have everything.) :D

    1. Well, if Dejah Thoris can woo John Carter with with such ease then what chance do we have at resisting her charm, right?

      It's been a fun hop.

  26. I am beyond late but Marvin is also my favourite martian. From a child to my current adulthood I always enjoyed the antics he'd get into and the fact he wasn't scared to use his pistol and got right down to business. In a world of funny business he'd have none of it. That's why Marvin is my fave Martian.

I cannot tell you how many laughs my brother and I have had for (forty?) years thanks to Marvin. Only our imitations of Foghorn Leghorn garnered more laughs and giggles.

  27. Marvin is Marvelous!

I just noticed, there is an original Marvin wearing green with gold helmet (and kilt?) and the latter Marvin wearing red with green helmet (and kilt)

I'm old school.. I like Marvin as the little green man from Mars.
